The Juventus striker's chances of being selected for the World Cup appear to be all but over after he missed out on selection for the clash against Romania
Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero were amongst the players selected in Argentina’s squad to face Romania in March, but there was still no call-up for Carlos Tevez and Esteban Cambiasso.Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero and Tottenham’s Erik Lamela were other hopefuls who missed out on Alejandro Sabella’s selection in what will be the country’s only game before their World Cup warm-up matches in June.
Sabella named a 22-man squad to face Romania on March 5, although he can still add to that pool with players playing in Argentina in the weeks leading up to the game.
